Neighborhood Improvement Project Spotlight

Signaling a change for Pioneer Square

Our First Community: First People in Seattle’s First Neighborhood

In honor of the First People in Seattle’s First Neighborhood, the Pioneer Square Residents’ Council (PSRC) in collaboration with the Chief Seattle Club recently announced the initiation of Art Outside the Box—a neighborhood project to enhance the streetscapes of Pioneer Square with original art created by indigenous Coast Salish artists. All of the selected artists are enrolled tribal members of the Coast Salish region, which is the place where Pioneer Square exists.

Check out the new signal box art during the next Pioneer Square, First Thursday Art Walk on August, 1.

  • 1st & Cherry  – Cycles of Time by Dylan Thomas
  • 1st & Yesler – Salmon Habitat by Joseph Seymour
  • 1st & Washington – Generations – 2 by Denise Lynn Emerson
  • 1st & King – Judge and Jury by Rudy Romero

We’re proud to be the selected provider for the Pioneer Square ‘Art Outside the Box’ First People in Seattle’s First Neighborhood signal box project.
